Jojo Rabbit A 2019 Film: Review

The name of the movie 'Jojo Rabbit' has been taken from one of the scenes set in a Deutsches Jungvolk, the junior section of the Hitler Youth, where a 10-year old boy named Johannes Betzler is being repeatedly called 'Jo Jo Ra-bit'  and mocked for failing to kill a rabbit. The killing of the rabbit was a process for the child to prove his worthiness.  The story revolves around the conflict between the inner and the outside world of the 10-year old, wherein the inner soul is innocent, affectionate towards all the living beings – irrespective of their caste or race, wants to play, make friends and follow butterflies on streets. On the contrary the boy is surrounded by people and circumstances that remind him of his responsibility, the duty and loyalty he has towards his country, that consequently kills his childhood. Jojo Rabbit is a 2019 comedy drama film which was written and directed by Taika Waititi based on Christine Leunen's 2008 book Caging Skies. The film ha...

Six Days of 1967: A War or an Aggression

Six-Day War 1967  “The spirit of Israel’s heroes accompanies us to battle . . . From Joshua Bin-Nun, King David, the Maccabees and the fighters of 1948 and 1956, we shall draw the strength and courage to strike the Egyptians who threaten our safety, our independence and our future. Fly, soar at the enemy, destroy him and scatter him throughout the desert so that Israel may live, secure in its land, for generations.”  With these words, on the morning of 5th June 1967, the Israeli Air Force Commander Motti Hod issued an order for the pre-emptive airstrikes on the Egyptian aircraft parked on an apron. The first wave of airstrikes was merely of half an hour but the single squadron had destroyed half of the Egyptian air force. This was first of the six days of war. It was the shortest war in history called ‘Six-Day War’ or ‘An-Naksa’ meaning ‘The Setback’.  The roots of violence in the region go back to the early decades of the twentieth century when the indigenous popul...

Quds Day 2021

When the Muslim World was busy raising awareness about the human rights of Palestinians and the Israeli settler colonialism and its brutalities, the colonialists made sure that the brutal show must go on.  Last Friday of every Ramadan is celebrated as the International Quds Day to raise awareness about the Israeli oppression faced by the indigenous population of Palestine. The event was initiated by the Islamic republic of Iran in 1979. Since then Several Islamic organizations and the organizations fighting for the Palestinian cause conduct seminars and conferences every year. Thousands of Palestinians gather together to pray in the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque to show the resistance to the illegal occupation. This year also Palestinians gathered together to resist the forced settlements and further illegal annexations of West Bank region when faced the violence. But first let us look at the brutal timeline of illegal occupation this Ramadan.  Israeli Occupational Forces ...

A letter to a Palestinian Resistant

To, The Symbol of Resilience, A Palestinian Resistant, Have you ever wondered, Abdallah, who sets the community guidelines in modern world and who decides the legitimacy of actions? I mean who decides that the violations done by an army official for the illegal usurpation of territories are milder than those done to retaliate. I have been wondering ever since the brutality escalated at your place. Meanwhile one thing is crystal clear that whoever is curbing the community guidelines is a mass murderer with no conscience and humanity.  I am doing fine here. I pray for your well-being too. Is it true that Israeli Occupational Forces had barged into Al-Aqsa compound recently and wounded more than 200 worshipers using stun grenades, rubber coated bullets and sound bombs? I am verifying this because I have got to know from some twitteratis and Instagrammars like Mohammed elKurd, Obaddar and Mariam Barghouti. You know when I watch the live videos of these famous handles nowaday...

A Letter to a Fasting Palestinian

To,  The Symbol of Resistance,  A Fasting Palestinian (Peace be upon you, the day you were born, the day you will die and the day you shall again be raised) Abdallah! We are fine here and have been constantly praying Almighty to give you the strength to resist the illegal occupational forces. We remember that it’s going to mark the 73rd anniversary on May 15th since the brutality started in Palestine. We cannot feel but understand the physical pain and mental trauma that you have been subjected to every day under the illegal occupation of Israel for these years. We know that it’s way too long to resist cruel settlers. But the world has witnessed that you have championed the field of resilience. You have become a symbol of resistance. You have set an example for everyone in the world to express dissent peacefully to an oppressive state.  Just a few days ago I came across an update about the midnight attacks on local Palestinian residents in the old city of Jerusalem just a...

The Ongoing Nakba

Within two weeks since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has unleashed violence on the Palestinians residing in different regions. The airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, the call for genocide of Arabs in the old city of Jerusalem and now the  ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah.  On 17th April the IDF had launched an airstrike on Gaza Strip allegedly hitting the terror targets which it claimed were operated by Gaza’s Islamist ruling party Hamas. The airstrike was second within a week. The strikes launched hours after the militants fired the rocket in southern Israel as per the claim of Israeli officials. It also claimed that the strikes caused no casualty or damage. This was not the first time that Israel has violated human rights in Gaza Strip. Rather It has conducted more such strikes in past years targeting schools, hospitals and homes justified by an act of ‘self-defense’ devastating the infrastructure of the region. It has al...

Dawn of the Arab Spring: The Jasmine Revolution

Picture Credit: Al Jazeera Tunisian folks were a prey to major political and economic issues such as unemployment, fraud, corruption, poverty, lack of freedom etc in 2010. A time when Zine-al-Abidine Ben Ali was ruling Tunisia for the past 23 years. Even though the populace was pretty much aware of the ill regime yet they were being silenced under the Ben Ali dictatorship.  A university graduate had to opt fruit selling as his occupation when he could not find a job even at an age of 26. This 26 years old man named Muhammad Bouazizi was the sole bread bearer of his family. One fine morning of 17th of December 2010, he went out as per his daily schedule to earn a living and soon he ended up conflicting with a policewoman. Some police personnel even confiscated his merchandise along with his cart on account of Bouazizi not being able to bribe them. After a pretty long unarmed fight with the police personnel, Mouhammad Bouazizi...
